Okay, I can already see your face through the screen- you’re looking at me as if I am crazy thinking to yourself, “What in the world is fascia and what does it have anything to do with my body?”
Here is how it has to do with your body… it is all over your body! Fascia is the connective tissue that connects your muscles and your skin, surrounding all of your organs. Most people are unsure of or completely unaware of what fascia is due to the fact that it is removed from most anatomical displays to provide better views of the organs in human beings. In your day-to day life or even especially as an athlete receiving fascia treatment and massages greatly benefits and impacts your body and mental health. Now you’re starting to believe in this mythical part of your body, but you are skeptically thinking, “Okay, so what do I do… with my… fascia?” Binded fascia that is very tight can cause imbalances or weakness all over your body, so it is important to keep the fascia unbinded to promote range of motion and strength for athletes and your everyday life. There are various ways to unbind this integral tissue. 1. Foam rolling Using a foam roller is a light way to help unbind the fascia and prevent any imbalances or weakness that may occur. 2. Fascia Blasting This form of unbinding the fascia using a stick with claw-like knobs on it to loosen your fascia after working out or sitting in a sauna or hot shower. 3. Using a ball By using a lacrosse ball or golf ball you can get those weird places, like the bottom of your feet that can cause hip, knee, and back pain due to tight bound up fascia. 4. Massage The king of all- the massage! Receiving a massage from a certified massage therapist is an excellent way to loosen up fascia. Massage therapists, like myself, can loosen the fascia to your comfort level and needs. Let’s do a quick review of the benefits of loosening/ unbinding your fascia:
